Coaching

Essentially Coaching is a conversation or series of conversations that focuses on some particular need of the ‘coachee’. This could be a sticky issue or problem, new situation or maybe something more aspirational, a fledgling idea or project that the coachee wants to think through and flesh out. Coaching is a form of individual development and at work the aim is to maximise the coachee’s potential in order to improve performance.

Coaching differs from mentoring in that it is less directive. A coach would not normally offer advice or guidance but listens and by using effective questioning, offering feedback and observations and encouraging the coachee to explore different perspectives, supports and gently challenges the coachee to come to their own decisions. Critically a coach does not therefore need detailed knowledge or experience of the coachee’s area of expertise.

1 to 1 Executive and Leadership Coaching

Our one-to-one coaching is designed to support people in the workplace, often during times of change. This can include (but is not limited to):

  • Following promotion to a more senior role
  • To support return to work following parental leave or long term absence
  • Whilst change is implemented

We have experience of coaching individuals across a range of different sectors and at different levels in an organisation.

Coaching for Groups and Teams

We also offer coaching for groups and teams. This takes a similar form to one to one coaching sessions, but offers the chance for all to share their views and find a way forward in a safe space. We work with existing teams to help them work even more effectively together or with groups, such as project teams who are working together for a short period with a specific purpose. We can help such teams to maximise what they can achieve together.

Coaching Supervision

Drawing on our many years of training and developing coaches, we offer supervision to coaches in our  ILM Coaching alumni network and beyond.

Supervision is available on a one to one or group basis.

Developing Coaches

We have been running coach training programmes for over 10 years, and offer a range of options from short introductory workshops to full qualification programmes, up to Level 7 (Masters Level), which lead to certification from the renowned ILM.

Introduction to Coaching

This is a one day workshop which introduces the skills and knowledge required to have coaching style conversations in a work environment. It can be delivered in-house and we also offer it as an open programme across the year.

Manager as Coach

This more in-depth two day workshop offers a deeper insight into coaching skills, behaviours and knowledge and sets the scene to allow Managers to use coaching as part of their leadership skillset. This is also run in-house for clients or as an open course.

Bespoke Coach and Mentor Training

We can draw on our wide range of coach and mentoring training resources to design bespoke courses to meet the needs of individual clients.

ILM Level 5 for Professional Coaches and Mentors

See the ILM’s Guide to the Qualification.

A full qualification is available which leads to the respected ILM Level 5 Certificate or Diploma in Effective Coaching and Mentoring. It is an engaging and practical programme consisting of 6 full day workshops and support from your tutors and our online learning platform as you complete the required coaching practice and assignments which demonstrate your learning journey.

This qualification is seen as the entry- level to be a professional coach in many public sector organisations and is a great entry level qualification to the market for would-be freelance professional coaches.

We often run this for in-house cohorts as part of a wider coaching strategy and also offer dates on open programmes throughout the year.

ILM Level 7 for Executive Coaches and Leadership Mentors

See the ILM’s Guide to the Qualification.

Our most in-depth programme, the ILM Level 7 Certificate or Diploma in Executive Coaching and Leadership Mentoring, takes your coaching knowledge to a senior level, building on the Level 5 content by incorporating insights into how coaching and mentoring operate at a senior and / or strategic level.

We often run this for in-house cohorts as part of a wider coaching strategy and also offer dates on open programmes throughout the year.
